The Guevent Investments Development Corporation (GIDC) is the holding company of Domingo M. Guevara, Sr. It is now a family endeavour with a business footprint that spans across the entire Philippine archipelago.
GIDC celebrated its 50th anniversary on January 2011, and with the celebrations came its evolution into a relevant industry player. To represent this change and to better bring forward its enriched mission and vision, a change in corporate name took effect from Guevent Industrial Development Corporation to Guevent Investments Development Corporation.
Its Pioneering Spirit
GIDC was founded in 1961 by Domingo M. Guevara, Sr., a self-made Filipino industrialist and entrepreneur. He had an abiding faith in Filipino talent and resourcefulness, and an unrelenting passion to create products and services meant to upgrade the quality of life of his fellowmen.
Domingo M. Guevara, Sr. entered the Philippine business scene by establishing Radiowealth, Incorporated in 1935 and this small radio shop eventually rose to become the country’s first all-Filipino manufacturer of a wide range of affordable home appliances. Radiowealth was also the first manufacturer of TV picture tubes and electronic parts in this side of Asia, ahead of Taiwan and Singapore.
Using the momentum from the unparalleled success of Radiowealth, Guevara Sr., proceeded to create another trailblazing company — DMG Incorporated. This company was responsible for the import and assembly of the world-famous Volkswagen cars in the Philippines, thus making the sturdy vehicles reasonably priced for the common Filipino.
The “Sakbayan” and “Trakbayan” vehicles– first 100 percent Filipino-made motor vehicles designed precisely for the local terrain– were also manufactured by DMG, thanks to the thorough research and testing of its people and the vision of its founder.
Today, GIDC remains a Filipino family-owned corporation with interests in diverse business, managed by professionals who share the same faith and passion of its pioneering patriarch.
