Providing direction and vision as the Board of Directors of GIDC are Guevara Sr.’s eight children, together with three independent directors.
Investments in Real Estate Development
GIDC’s endeavours in real estate are manifested in property development, leasing, and land-banking properties.
The flagship of GIDC’s leasable buildings is located in the 12-storey DMG Center, located along Domingo M. Guevara Street (formerly Libertad) in Mandaluyong City. The DMG Center was opened to the public in the middle of 2010 and is now at the forefront of business activity in the area.
Other leasable assets of GIDC are condominium units in the four-story Guevent Condominium Corporation Building, also located along Domingo M. Guevara Street just across the DMG Center; commercial spaces in Doña Carmen Apartments on C.M. Aguila Street, San Beda Subdivision, City of Manila; and The Carmen Hotel, a four-story boutique hotel in Naga City, the Company founder’s provincial residence.
Investments in Subsidiaries and Affiliates
GIDC’s subsidiaries and affiliates have provided substantial returns on investment over the past years.
Among these are its investment in Radiowealth Finance Company, Incorporated (RFC). RFC has over 100 branches and 150 business centers operating mainly in the country side, providing loans to small and medium-sized business entrepreneurs. It is considered as one of the fastest growing financing companies in the Philippines to date, with an annual revenue growth of over 20 percent over the past five years.
GIDC has also invested in G&S Transport Corporation, the AVIS Rent-A-Car Licensee for Philippines. Today, it has a fleet of over 600 vehicles and 26 stations throughout the country, and it is also known by its local name, AVIS Philippines.
The company’s profitable investments in subsidiaries and affiliates are the Bingo King Services Philippines (BKSP); Project Quest, a private equity fund managed by the Pacific Northstar Corporation; and Transwealth Transportation Solutions which provides top-quality car rental, limousine, shuttle, fleet management, and valet/parking solutions to the top gaming facilities and resorts in the country.
Most recent investments include majority shareholdings in EVWealth, Inc, the country’s first commercially manufactured electric three-wheeled vehicle in the Philippines, known as the Trikebayan, and Azyantech, an End-to-End Solutions and Services Company specializing in the installation and maintenance of network equipment for the Telecommunications and Information Technology Industry.
Investments in Agro-Industrial Projects
GIDC has recently embarked on two agro-industrial projects, both of which are in their early gestation stages.
GIDC recognizes the abundance of Philippine Bamboo (Bambusa Vulgaris), as well as its unlimited potential and continually increasing commercial value. Upon harvesting, the bamboo’s raw material is then processed into various products such as engineered wood for housing lumber and other by-products, thus underscoring bamboo as a more sustainable raw material compared to natural wood cut from trees. It is optimistic that domestic and international demand for the said crop will eventually outpace supply. Thus, bamboo is GIDC’s crop of choice for it’s Agri-Business Venture.
The Company is, presently planting and cultivating bamboo on a commercial scale in its 400-hectare property in the municipality of Taytay, Palawan. The property is also in close proximity to El Nido and San Vicente areas which enjoy a substantial number of tourist visits all year round.
GIDC has also allotted a significant portion of its property to the creation of family farm modules for landless farmers. The Company empowers interested farmers so that they can maximize the potential of the land by first teaching the latest farming technologies for the cultivation of bamboo and other high value crops, then purchasing all their farm output. GIDC will setup micro bamboo processing facilities similar to the ones found in China. These plans are expected to provide livelihood and regular income to the indigent families in Taytay, Palawan.
Planting, cultivating, and processing sustainable crops like bamboo will help preserve the valuable forests in Palawan which are essential not only to the natural environment but also to the sustenance of the thriving ecotourism industry in the area.
A More Entrepreneurial, Sustainable Future
GIDC is positioned for a future that will be even brighter than its glorious past. This future will continue to be anchored on the abiding faith in the Filipino and in the unrelenting passion to upgrade the life of the common tao, as espoused by its founder and patriarch.
GIDC intends to build structures on its various prime land banking properties, either through its own resources or through joint ventures with larger developers. This will allow the Company to realize the true value of its land banking properties and convert these into recurring lease income for a more stable future. With the steady growth of its leaseable property base, GIDC has also diversified into property management and other peripheral businesses.
GIDC will continue to pursue opportunities by investing in subsidiaries and affiliates with notably high growth and consistent dividend income.
GIDC’s various projects are ambitious and challenging. With capable human resources and valuable partners, together with the proper execution of its road map to success, GIDC is assured of continued future financial rewards while improving the lives of the Filipinos.
As it faces the challenges in implementing its plans, GIDC is confident that with the values and principles inculcated by its founder, GIDC will achieve a future far greater than its past.
